FAYETTEVILLE FURIES LACROSSE CLUB

FAYETTEVILLE FURIES LACROSSE CLUB

WELCOME

WELCOME TO FURIES LACROSSE!  Our sport is the fastest growing in the country, and has been for a long time.  In a “developing” area like ours, opportunities to learn and play lacrosse are still hard to find, especially with only four Varsity High School programs in Cumberland County.  Our goal is to change that!  By providing quality professional coaching, access to nearby tournaments, a philosophy fostering inclusion and good sportsmanship, all at an achievable cost, we can expand the love of lacrosse even father.

Fall Travel Club registration is open for girls in grades 6-12.  No experience necessary!  The two Session 1 tournaments are half-field, half-time and half-team 6v6 events, intended to be fun and achievable for new players.  Session 2’s tournament builds on this with 5 full-field, full-team 12v12 games over 2 days, perfect for players gearing up for Varsity Tryouts.  Teams will be divided by level of competition and total number of players.

Our Fall Goalie Clinic is for girls and boys of all ages.  Whether new to the position or the sport, or ready to knock some rust off before spring, this Clinic is a great way to focus on Goal Keeper essentials and safety.  All teams, from Club to Varsity to College, need a trained, confident leader in cage.  If you are ready to step up to this challenge, our Clinic is the place to start.

This winter, a Parent Volunteer Clinic will be offered for supporters of the Women’s Varsity game.  Referees and Coaches depend a TON on our Parent Volunteers, more so than most sports.  This Clinic will break down the requirements of the Scorer and Timer positions, field setup, pregame process, and basic rules of the game.  Learn the skillset to help our girls compete at a higher level this season.

Personal Training is available to new and returning girls’ game players and all goalies.  Whether you want to learn the basics, improve on specific core skills, or reach that next level to compete for college recruiting, personalized one-on-one practices are just what you need.  Fill out our Personal Training request form with age, experience, position, goals and more, and we’ll provide training options to help you reach your targets.

Are you building a new Varsity Women’s program in your high school?  Coach training sessions are available by request, for individuals or groups.  So many well-intended parents, teachers and former players want to give kids the opportunity to play, but don’t have the current knowledge or planning skills to manage the season.  With focused Coaching Basics Training, you can develop and execute a clear plan forward and set your team up for success.

Lacrosse creates an amazing venue for competition, teamwork and life skill development.  At Furies Lacrosse, we play with respect for our ROOTS: Rules, Officials, Opponents, Teammates and Self.  We treat others with dignity, welcoming all who want to participate.  There is no tolerance for bullying, abusive behavior or dirty play; from players, coaches or parents.  Expect the best from yourself, encourage the best from others, and there’s no limit to how far you can go!

Director and Head Coach Rita Beal

Rita Beal’s career in Women’s Lacrosse has spanned over 35 years. A native of Syracuse, NY, Rita was introduced to the sport in Middle School. After playing multiple positions she committed to Goal Keeper her senior year, earning First Team All-League and MVP honors.

Rita went on to play at the Division I level for American University in Washington, DC, as their starting Keeper for two years. She then transferred to the University of North Carolina, where she earned her spot on the Tar Heels' inaugural Women’s Lacrosse Team and Lettered that year.

Following college, Rita enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. She then served in federal positions until choosing to focus on raising her family and begin her career as a Lacrosse Coach. Rita’s love of the sport and passion for mentoring young athletes has since spanned five states and impacted eleven lacrosse programs.

From Seattle to Chicago to Fayetteville, Rita has coached at Varsity, Junior Varsity and Club levels. Her leadership, knowledge and commitment to excellence have resulted in resurrecting failing programs; increases in participation; undefeated seasons; players achieving top 5% in state statistics; and seniors successfully continuing to play in college.

Rita initiated Furies Lacrosse Club in 2019 while Head Coach at Cape Fear High School after a final military move brought her family back “home” to Fayetteville.  Currently the Jack Britt High School Head Coach, she has worked hard to build positive programs based on respect, integrity and focused skill development. Her player-centric efforts have reenergized teams while increasing participation and inclusion, and in 2021 Rita was voted Conference 7 Coach of the Year by her peers.

Rita is NFHS Level 3 Accredited, a USA Lacrosse Level 3 Coach, and a Certified Personal Trainer specializing in Sports Performance. She is also Positive Coaching Alliance, Safe Sport, AHA HeartSaver and Women’s Coaching Alliance trained.
